Maths Tutor

Level: Entry Level

Pay Band: Scale S2 (£12.60 + £1.52 holiday pay p/hr)

Reporting to: Education Officer (Volunteer)

Department: Education and Community Programmes

Role Summary

The Tutor will provide high-quality, personalised tutoring sessions to students across a range of subjects, ensuring that each student receives the support they need to succeed academically. The Tutor will work closely with students, identifying their strengths and areas for improvement, and develop tailored lesson plans that meet their individual needs. This role is vital in helping students achieve their academic goals and fostering a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • We’re seeking candidates with strong academic credentials: preferably a B or higher at A-Level in the subject you wish to tutor. If you haven’t achieved this, then we require you to achieve an average of 62% in a relevant degree.
  • Those not currently studying require a 2:1 degree with proof of A-level knowledge or further studies in the past 4 years.
  • GCSE requirements demand an average of 65 or a total of 55+ across eight core subjects, excluding Citizenship, Critical Thinking, General Studies, Media Production, Health and Social Care, and Tourism.
  • If you’ve studied IB, then we require an overall diploma score of 30+. A score between 24 and 29 requires individual subject review, and below 24 will not meet our qualification standards.
  • We recognise alternative qualifications like BTECs, Cambridge Nationals, Scottish Highers, Functional Skills, and IGCSEs—but not T-Levels, music grades, or LAMBDA qualifications. If you have alternative qualifications, they must be recognised as equivalent by the Education Officer according to QCA standards.
  • We’re also looking for people with previous tutoring or teaching experience (desirable) and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
